First Weekly RCBH Obstacle Exposure

The first weekly RCBH Obstacle exposure session was held at the Barrington Hills Riding Center Indoor arena on Sunday, 3/20/2022 between 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM. The sessions were scheduled for the indoor arena to minimize cancellations due to inclement weather.

The weekly activity is organized and run by RCBH Members Penny Goldsberry, Susan Helenowski, and Margaret Palmer for the purpose of having fun while desensitizing your horses to novel stimuli. This improves the relationship between riders and horses to build trust and increase safety, particularly when riding the trails where encountering new objects is common.

The turnout was perfect for the facilities and in this one session most horses improved in their reaction to various obstacles.

Bo had no problem with the carwash obstacle, even with a bear on his back.

Crossing the bridge was challenging at first.

But they all did it easily soon.

Bears and bells and tires and tubes and tunnels and tarps all became things to ignore!

ALL RCBH members are invited to attend these weekly Obstacle sessions. Please check the Website calendar at https://www.ridingclubofbarringtonhills.org/calendar/ for the schedule.

RCBH New Members

We all welcome New Members of the Riding Club of Barrington Hills: Angela Braverman as well as Bridgette and John Schneidwind.

Angela Braverman, has plans to get a horse from Oregon and is trying to figure out how to transport it here. When the horse gets here, she would like to board at Ulke Farms.

Bridgette and John Schneidwind have two horses stabled on their property and were sponsored by Eve Perry and Dan Goodman for membership.

RCBH Sunny Sundays Brunch

The Riding Club plans to start Sunny Sundays Brunch soon, hopefully on a weekly basis. Last year, we noticed a definite increase in participation in the brunches with attendance by RCBH members and their neighbors. We are looking for volunteers to help organize and work on the event, since the project is very taxing for just one or two people to run every week. In 2021, the Sunny Sundays Brunches were a weekly event run by Jane Clement and Maggie Topping. With the amount of work that goes into creating each brunch, various parts of creating weekly brunches were separated for each week. Volunteers can sign up for a portion of one week’s work or as many parts for as many weeks as they would like. For more information, please see the website at https://www.ridingclubofbarringtonhills.org/rcbh-sunny-sundays-brunch/ .

RCBH Walk Only Trail Rides

With improvement of the weather and trail riding conditions, we will be starting the RCBH Walk Only Trail Rides each Saturday at 10 AM, weather permitting. The rides are a wonderful way to socialize with other equestrians and for the horses to improve behavior with each other. We typically meet at the wash rack at the Barrington Hills Riding Center to start each ride which lasts about an hour and is centered on safety and having a great time for the riders and horses. Please check the website calendar for these events: https://www.ridingclubofbarringtonhills.org/calendar/ .
