WALK ONLY Trail Ride

YOU’RE INVITED:
We would love to have you on the RCBH Walk only trail ride for members.
OUR GOAL:
Safety and Fun!!!! To provide an opportunity for members and horses of all ages and stages to trail ride in a group.
Group riding at the walk increases both the horses and their rider’s confidence riding outside of arena, and offers club members a chance to meet other riders, and provides an un-interrupted hour to immerse yourself in nature on the RCBH maintained trails, that we are so privileged to have.
WHEN AND WHERE:
Emails sent monthly to all members so be sure the RCBH has your email address
Check the calendar on the website for times, locations and cancellations. Trails>walk only trail ride.
GUIDELINES:
• WALK is the only gait allowed on the ride. Please be respectful of that for everyone’s safety
• Trail ride lasts for 1 hour
• Ride departs promptly at start time
• Ponying is not permitted on Walk Only rides.
• Pre-ride meeting starts 10 minutes before departure time….please plan to attend
• To setup you horse for success, please be mounted 15 minutes before ride. This allows your horse an opportunity to settle, get calm and prepare for the relaxing one hour ride.
• If you find yourself late, please don’t catch up with us we ride out every week and hope to see you the next week. No trotting to catch up to the group is allowed.
• A Trail Leader is designated for every ride. Please do not pass the Trail Leader.• For safety reasons it is prudent to leave one horse space between you and the next horse.
• If you feel the need to trot…DON’T
• Notify trail leader of issues as they occur using “Hold up” technique”
• If a gap larger that 2 horses lengths develops during the ride for any reason, use the “Hold up” technique to notify Trail leader. Please don’t trot your horse to catch up
• If you or your horse need to stop during the ride (Potty break,, equipment malfunction, worried horse etc.) be sure to use the Hold up technique to notify Trail Leader so we can wait.
• If you need to leave the ride before its conclusion it must be at a walk until you are out of sight of the group. You must notify the leader before you go.
• Please have Forest Preserve of Cook county tags and RCBH tags with you.
HOLD UP TECHNIQUE
Rider says “HOLD UP” to the rider in front of you
That rider will say “HOLD UP” to the rider in front of them and so on until it reaches the Trail Leader.
